Sites about Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror

  • Locus Online -- a great resource, and check out the Links Portal.
  • The Fantasy Book List, a bibliography of almost every fantasy writer I have ever heard of and some that I've never seen before. No listing for a certain K.D. Link though...

  • NESFA, the New England Science Fiction Association, is one of the oldest SF clubs in the Northeast US.

  • The Internet Top 100 Science Fiction / Fantasy Reading List, updated weekly, now you can know what everyone likes to read and maybe pick up a title or two for summer vacation.

  • The Bram Stroker Awards, The HORROR WRITERS ASSOCIATION (HWA) gives the Bram Stoker Awards for Superior Achievement annually. This page lists everything you wanted to know about the award and who their mother's optician was. Quite complete with a list of winners and nominees in every category.

  • The Recommended Fantasy Author Page is a good recommendation of authors and a brief bibliography of their work as well as a synopsis of the work. The bad side of the page is that it is a very big file to down load. I found it very informative.

  Sites on Books in General

  • Literary Trail of Greater Boston If you aren't familiar with the Literary Trail, please check out their website.

  • Soon's Historical Fiction Site is worth the price of admission. His site encompasses quite a lot and is very extensive. If this is your field, your interest, you must know about this resource. He covers authors ranging from Alexander Dumas and Victor Hugo to Dorothy Dunnett and Patrick O'Brian. I cannot recommend this site enough!
  • The New York Times Book Section on the Web is a great resource for current book info. They have on line audio interviews and other neat stuff like that.
  • Literary Lists is just that, a site under the UPenn auspices that has lists of lists of literary winners. If you are looking for a good book to read, click here and try any the of the above.
  • The Library of Congress is the Library of Congress. 'Nuff said.

  Publisher Sites

  • Tor SF & Fantasy, a publisher that is putting out almost exclusively SF, Fantasy and Horror by some big names. Their site contains a good selection of other sites to explore as well as a listing of upcoming books.
  • Donald M. Grant, a small press publisher that does the Stephen King Dark Tower Books (which we keep in stock).

  • Small Beer Press, publishers of Kelly Link, Carol Emshwiller, Ray Vukcevich and Lady Churchill's Rosebud Wristlet.
  • White-Wolf, a game studio that for a while successfully published genbre fiction. Plus, they have an impressive Web Site.
  • Wildside, A Science Fiction Resource, Small Press, Floor Wax and Non-Dairy Creamer all in one! Well, it doesn't work as well as the last two.

Robert Birnbaum Interviews Authors

Robert Birnbaum has been a practitioner of journalism for the past two decades, in the 90's, as publisher/creative director of STUFF magazine in Boston. During this time he interviewed nearly 500 hundred writers---from Martin Amis and Isabel Allende to Marianne Wiggins and Howard Zinn---and read almost 1000 books.

He is currently freelancing for Boston Magazine, among others. You'll find several of his interviews at www.identitytheory.com.

H.P. Lovecraft and Arkham House Related Sites

If you haven't read HPL or any of the early Arkham writers do so right now before the Old Ones awaken and devour you. Or look at these sites about Mr. Lovecraft and Friends.

Terry Pratchett Terry Pratchett

A humorous British Fantasy/SF author who does amazing parodies of the genre

The L-Space Web, 'confifting of that part of thee WORLDE WIDE WEBB which contains COMMENTARIES and EXPLICATIONS upon the MULTITUDINOUS WORKS of MISTER TERENCE PRATCHETT ESQUIRE, scribe of thysse parifh.' (Note: I didn't write this description -- but the site is truly a fan's honest homage!) (They also provided the picture to the right there.)

Harlan Ellison

Much has been said about this guy, both good and bad. Despite this, he writes REALLY well.

Harlan Ellison The Islets of Langerhans is a good fan page of Mr. Ellison and his work. Some good opening graphics and Harlan E. info that is mentioned above. But for a more complete look at Mr. E., check out the resource info that is one of the links.

Charles DeLint Charles DeLint

The Charles DeLint Homepage is author maintained and written. He has a complete listing of his books for the fan who has recently discovered him and updates on writings and stories for those who continue to discover him. (Which provided the picture to the right here. Photo credits by Beth Gwinn.)

Pat Cadigan

If you consider your self a cyber punk fan and you have not read anything by her, you are a poser!! Her web page is cool as well.

Pat Cadigan The Pat Cadigan Home Page -- while this is not an author maintained page, it is a really good one with the info and looks of high quality that does not let you down.

Nevil Shute Nevil Shute

Author of On the Beach and Trustee from the Tool Room as well as one the best selling authors of his time, is one of the shop favorites and we always recommend him to customers looking for a good well written story. The Nevil Shute Home Page is a good source for the author.

Robert Benchley

The Robert Benchley Society is a forum for appreciation and discussion of the work and life of twentieth-century American humorist Robert Benchley. Want to test your Benchley knowledge? Try their quiz.

Links to INDEPENDENT Bookshops with a Speciality

  • Dream Haven Books -- one of the goals in my life is to go out and see this store & meet it's staff. I've seen their catalog and I hope that they can get something like that on their web page.
  • Cobblestone Books -- this is the goal of this web page. I really like what their site is like and hope someday to us to this level. Also, they have a great selection of SF books with a lot of British imports.
  • Spenser's Mystery Books -- A new site from our friends down the street. Boston's only mystery bookshop, lots of new and used, hardcover and paperback. Check their monthly specials.
